Þórsmörk trip
Austurbæjarskóli 10th-grade students went on their graduation trip from June 3-5th Their destination was Þórsmörk, continuing a long-standing tradition of students and teachers heading outdoors during the final stretch of primary school. The trip was a resounding success.
Beautiful weather allowed ample time for outdoor games and activities, which the students enjoyed to the fullest from the moment they arrived until they departed. The days were filled
with games, cards, laughter, camaraderie, and singing, both indoors and out. Hiking into Nauthúsagil, the group hopped across stones, waded through a small stream, and scrambled up a short climb at the end to reach a dramatic waterfall deep inside the gorge. Starting from Básar, the students hiked up Valahnúkur (458 meters), down into Húsadalur, across to Langidalur, and back to
Básar. The on-site managers at Básar warmly praised the students, calling them an outstanding group. In their honor, the they lit two bonfires specifically for the Austurbæjarskóli students. One was a small fire for roasting marshmallows, and the other was a larger campfire. The group brought out a guitar and sang a few campfire
songs together. On the way back, the group stopped at Seljalandsfoss, walked behind the waterfall, and then headed home for the weekend.
