Visit to the House of Collections
Students at Austurbæjarskóli's Icelandic Language Center have been invited to take part in a collaborative project with the National Gallery of Iceland at the House of Collections on Hverfisgata. Museum educators will introduce the museum, and students will explore artworks while weaving Icelandic language instruction into the experience through visual literacy methods. The theme is Icelandic folk tales and fairy tales. Students will then create their own artworks. An exhibit is planned for May, and parents are invited.
The first visit took place in early February and was incredibly successful. First, students were introduced to trolls and elves and viewed many images connected to folk tales about these creatures. Coffee, juice and fruit were then served. In the second part, they created their own mountains using wire, fabric and paint. At the end, students left with gift certificates for themselves and two adults to visit the museum. This was an amazing experience, and students were delighted. Austurbæjarskóli's Icelandic Language Center thanks the staff at the House of Collections on Hverfisgata for their exceptionally warm welcome.
